Hassims Car Hire (“we”, “us”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website and when you hire a vehicle from us, why we collect it, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

Information we collect

We only collect and keep personal information that is relevant to providing our vehicle hire service:

Enquiries and quote requests: your name, email address, phone number, the vehicle, dates and locations you ask about, and your message.
When you hire a vehicle: the details needed to complete the rental agreement, such as your identity and driver’s licence details and payment and deposit information.
Website usage: if you allow analytics cookies, anonymous information about how you use the site (see Cookies below).

How we use your information

We use your information to respond to enquiries, prepare quotes, process and manage vehicle hire, meet our legal and accounting obligations, and improve our website. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for unrelated purposes.

Who we share it with

We only share personal information where it is needed to provide our service or required by law, for example with our website host and email provider, our bank or payment provider, insurers, or authorities in the case of traffic fines, accidents or a legal request. These parties may only use the information for that purpose.

Cookies and analytics

When you first visit, we ask which cookies you accept. You can change your choice at any time using the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page.

Necessary: a cookie called hassims_consent remembers your cookie choice for six months. The site cannot work properly without it.
Analytics (only if you accept): we use Google Analytics 4, which sets the cookies _ga and _ga_* to count visits and see which pages are used. Google processes this information on our behalf. See the Google Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Advertisement (only if you accept): Google may use cookies to measure the results of our Google Ads, as described in the Google advertising policy.

Our contact form is protected by Google reCAPTCHA to prevent spam. reCAPTCHA is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Google may process this information on servers outside South Africa. Google is bound by its own data protection commitments, which provide a level of protection comparable to POPIA.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information only for as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, or as long as the law requires (for example, for tax and accounting records). After that it is securely deleted.

Keeping it safe

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access.

Your rights

You may ask us what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa (inforegulator.org.za).
